Hello Spartan Athletes & Families!
It is my pleasure to welcome you back to Hazelton Secondary School for another academic school year. In addition to the learning that takes place in our classrooms, one of the highlights each school year is the joy, friendship, growth, and learning that comes with participation on our sport teams! We are excited to welcome back athletes both new and returning. We currently serve just under 150 student athletes that make up 40% of our student population, competing on 19 different teams.
We are proud to have a program that offers such a wonderful variety of sports at a competitive level (6 volleyball teams, 6 basketball teams, 2 soccer teams, 1 track and field team, 1 golf team, 1 badminton team, and 1 cross country team). Our program has developed athletes that have went on to compete at post-secondary, the All-Native Basketball Tournament, Team BC, and as members of Team Canada at the Olympics (to name a few)!
This year, dependent on volunteer coaches and student commitment, we will be offering volleyball, basketball, soccer, cross country, track and field, golf, badminton, and softball to our student-athletes. If you/ someone you know is interested in coaching a particular sport, please let me know. Our sports program stays alive because of the wonderful volunteers from our area that see the value in giving back to the youth in our community. Please be advised, the $75 student athlete fee is due before participation in a students’ first playday.
