The Board of Education for Coast Mountains School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Christine Duncan to the position of Principal at Hazelton Secondary School effective August 1, 2022.

Christine is an experienced and compassionate educator with a thorough knowledge of instructional and assessment strategies for learners including those from diverse and rich cultural backgrounds.  She recently served as an Instructor in the Kenanow Bachelor of Education Program at University College of the North in Thompson, Manitoba.  As both an educational leader and researcher, she is particularly interested in how we can better serve students to help them address and overcome any barriers they may face.  A lifelong learner throughout her teaching career, she believes academic excellence hinges on a commitment to the planning and delivery of effective, engaging, and innovative programs that meet the specific and varied needs of all learners.

Christine brings a diverse background with 30 years’ experience at the elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels to her new position having held roles as a director, principal, vice principal, professor and instructor within educational sectors in Manitoba and Ontario.  Her work in schools has always portrayed an emphasis on putting students first and establishing positive, collaborative relationships with students, parents, staff and community with an understanding of and respect for local Indigenous cultures, language and history.

She holds a Master of Education Degree in Educational Leadership, a Bachelor of Education Degree in Junior, Intermediate and Senior Teaching Qualifications and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the Nipissing University College (Laurentian University).

The school district feels fortunate to have an educator with Christine’s understanding and respect for the rich Indigenous cultures and dedication to the success of Indigenous students assume this important leadership role.
